Collaboration
We place enormous value on our COLLABORATIVE efforts:
- WBCC holds 3 seats on the Wisconsin Cancer Council and is represented on their policy committee.
- Since 2004, WBCC members have been participating in strategic planning sessions and the formulation of the State of Wisconsin’s Comprehensive Cancer Control Plan for 2005-2010. This plan establishes an integrated and coordinated approach to reducing cancer incidence, morbidity, and mortality through prevention, early detection, treatment, rehabilitation, and palliation in the state of Wisconsin.
- We are a participant in the Milwaukee Regional Cancer Care Network (MRCCN). This group is seeking to first identify barriers to access to quality cancer care in the Milwaukee area, and then to develop a plan dedicated to breaking down those barriers. This initiative is part of a strategy outlined in the WI Comprehensive Cancer Control Plan’s chapter on Treatment.
- In 2003 WBCC initiated a Partnership with the National Cancer Institute’s Cancer Information Service, American Cancer Society, Wisconsin Cancer Council, and Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to conduct a “Train the Trainer” program on the importance of clinical trials for health professionals and advocates. A second program is being planned in the Milwaukee area specifically dealing with underserved populations and increasing participation in clinical trials.
- With funding from the Medical Society of Milwaukee County, WBCC has delivered presentations on “Patient Advocacy – How to Use the Grievance Procedure” to cancer support groups in the Milwaukee County area.
